A bright, case study-led review contrasts with a largely text-based annual report to form Shell’s 2007 reporting suite. Within the review, a number of case studies illustrate how Shell is responding to environmental and social issues, while the report incorporates a range of environmental and social data.
Divisional reviews are found in both the report and review. Each features an outlook and strategy section, which offers strategic, marketplace and forward-looking information. A number of the reviews also explain the key measure of progress for the division – which are later identified as the group’s KPIs. Where the report loses marks is the lack of risk management information relating to specific risks. The level of employee information might also be expanded.
Online
Shell’s online annual report and review stand out. As well as a standard search bar, the HTML documents provide a drop-down menu of popular searches and links to related content. Tools on each page include a print manager and the facility to create an individual PDF, while a number of pages can be compared to the equivalent page from 2006. There’s even an interactive chart generator.
