Finding information in Imperial Tobacco's report is a relatively easy task. A clear contents page, tabbing, an index and cross-referencing all aid navigation through the document. Much of the content is good too, particularly relating to the marketplace. A discussion of regulation is elevated by the inclusion of Imperial Tobacco's views on relevant issues, while each of the regional reviews provides information about the market size, the group's share, and trends over the past 12 months.
Imperial Tobacco's inside front cover also offers an excellent introduction to the business, including an overview of performance, a breakdown of revenue and profit by region, key brands and regional highlights. What of the weaknesses? Coverage of environmental and social issues is limited and largely confined to the corporate responsibility section. And references to employees are few and far between.
