Strengths:
Risk management information
Forward-looking information
Weaknesses:
Non-financial KPIs
Marketplace information
Liberty International’s narrative content isn’t the longest in the sample – but it contains some useful information. The summary of investment and development properties provides an up front introduction to the property company, for example, while the chairman’s statement features information about the market and strategic content. That said, it would be nice to see the group’s strategy clearly defined and pulled from the text.
Thoughts on market conditions during 2008 and details of developments in progress give the chairman’s statement a forward-looking orientation. And principal risks are offered in the directors’ report – where they are presented in a table alongside mitigation activities.
The weakest area in the report is information about the market. This content is limited and fairly general in nature. Non-financial KPIs are similarly restricted.
Online:
The limited level of content in Liberty’s report doesn’t leave much room for innovation online. That said, the information is clearly presented using HTML. Anchor links at the top of longer sections aid navigation, while related links direct users to additional information within, and beyond, the report.
