Strengths:
Strategic information Forward-looking information
Weaknesses:
Employee content Non-financial KPIs
Royal & SunAlliance - soon to be renamed RSA - effectively weaves strategic information throughout its report. Early on, the report identifies the insurance group’s strategic priorities and the elements that are key to delivering these priorities. It also highlights specific areas of focus; outlines progress in 2007; provides relevant financial KPIs; and discusses the group’s priorities for 2008. What’s more, the report discusses key strategies at a divisional level.

The strategic content of the report awards it a forward-looking orientation. This is particularly evident in the divisional reviews, where the forward-looking information is boosted by key targets and outlook paragraphs. Environmental targets for the year ahead are also provided in the corporate responsibility chapter.

Generally, however, the discussion of the corporate responsibility issues is limited, while the employee content is brief and lacks comparative performance data. Non-financial KPIs – other than environmental figures – are also lacking.

Online:
The full HTML report features the new RSA brand and reflects the wider corporate website. It’s a clean, simple design, with straightforward navigation and a search option. A key strength is that the financials can be downloaded in Excel, but it would also be useful to be able to download individual sections of the report in PDF format.
