Strengths:
Business overview
Risk management information
Weaknesses:
Strategy
KPIs
The introduction to Schroders’ business review may not offer an ‘at a glance’ overview, but taking the time to read it does provide a wealth of information about the business. The asset management company’s locations are mapped and its clients described, while charts highlight the geographic split of income and a breakdown of the funds under management.
A review of the market analyses the demographic trends that are likely to impact Schroders and outlines how the market is expected to change. This provides a nod towards the future – and the group’s priorities for the year ahead are laid out too.
The lowest-scoring area is strategic content - in sharp contrast to the forward-looking orientation. Passing reference is made to the group’s strategy in the chairman and chief executive’s statement, but this doesn’t appear to be expanded upon. Nor does the report explain how management is measuring progress against its strategy.
Online:
Online, Schroders appears to offer a relatively simple report - but it does have a few nice touches. The balance sheet, for example, can be expanded to reveal more detail or contracted to show only the top line figures. And all of the financials can be downloaded in Excel.
